Diversified Computer Solutions Steps Up To Breast Cancer

Michael Taylor - Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Diversified Computer Solutions, Inc. (DCS), an IT specialist company based in Atlanta, GA and Columbia, SC, is showing its support in the fight against breast cancer. For the next few weeks, DCS is offering the familiar pink bracelets to support breast cancer research for $1.00 each. While that in itself is a great gesture, DCS is upping the ante by matching dollar for dollar up to $3,500.00 to be presented to the Lexington Medical Center in Lexington, SC.

DCS President Donald Kidwell explained “DCS, like practically everyone in the world has been affected by this disease. Mothers, daughters, women of all walks of life, have had their lives forever altered by breast cancer and we would just like to add whatever support we can to help end this disease.”

Early detection and aggressive therapies have made breast cancer more manageable. According to the National Cancer Institute, the estimated new cases for women in the U.S. will top 230,000 in women with an estimated death toll of almost 40,000. The research over the last 2 decades has had a tremendous affect in mortality rates in the United States with the high ranging from about 33% in 1990 to dropping to about 23% in 2006.

DCS is excited about starting this initiative to do our part to help the great work that Lexington Medical Center is doing. Lexington Medical offers affordable digital mammography with its state-of-the-art mobile unit, The Mobile Mammography van. The Mobile Mammography van can travel to places of business, school, church or organized event, and perform mammography screenings for those in the Midlands of South Carolina.

Diversified Computer Solutions Connects Goose Creek

DCS and Google Team Up For Goose Creek Free Wi-Fi Initiative

Diversified Computer Solutions, Inc. (DCS), an IT specialist company based in Atlanta, GA and Columbia, SC, has just completed installing city-wide WI-FI to the city of Goose Creek, SC funded in part by internet giant Google. The free service was officially launched on Monday, October 10th in a ribbon cutting ceremony in downtown Goose Creek.

DCS partnered with Google and the town of Goose Creek on this project by installing a total of 31 wireless nodes within 4 strategic locations around the city. These areas include, City Hall, the Felkel Fields Sports Complex, the Casey Community Center, and along the Central Avenue Corridor. With this infrastructure, open WI-FI is now available to everyone in the area. The project was started over 18 months ago as a public and private venture with Google chipping in over $160,000 in equipment and a 3 year maintenance contract to offer the services

DCS was excited to be a part of such a ground breaking opportunity as to work with Google on this project. This project will offer free WI-FI service for the next 3 years for the city of Goose Creek where leaders are committed to revitalize and renew its downtown areas to increase business and create jobs. Over the last several years, Google has made its mark in the low-country by creating a data center only a few miles from downtown and is about to open another $600 million data center alongside its current facility.

Ryan Byrd, Information Technology Director for the city of Goose Creek said “When I was approached by Google to implement a wireless network for the City of Goose Creek I jumped at the chance. I thought this would be a great thing for the City and help keep our citizens connected. We are always looking for ways to help improve our citizen’s lives and this was a perfect opportunity to do just that. &ldquo

Byrd went on to say “When presented with this opportunity, the first company I thought of to complete this important project was DCS. I have been working with them for about a year and I just knew they would be able to help me with this project. DCS did not disappoint. Everyone from the cable tech to the engineers was extremely helpful and professional. They made sure everything was done properly and in a timely manner. We could not have had as successful of a project without the help of DCS.

DCS President Donald Kidwell said “What Google was offering to the city of Goose Creek is amazing. DCS is proud to have the opportunity to put the infrastructure in place for this initiative. We hope that this will be a growing trend and love to be a part of those ventures as well”.
